Budget Tiers: Field Application

Field Scenario

A customer asks directly why one clarinet in the case is roughly three times the price of another that looks nearly identical from the outside.

What You Actually Do

You explain the actual differences — body material and construction, key mechanism precision and durability, intonation consistency, included accessories — specifically, rather than a vague “the expensive one is just better” answer that doesn’t actually inform their decision.

Why This Matters

A specific, honest explanation lets the customer decide what actually matters for their situation, rather than either feeling upsold with no real justification or assuming the cheaper option must be defective.

What a Strong Response Includes

  • Specific, concrete differences, not a vague quality claim.
  • Being honest if the cheaper option is genuinely adequate for this customer’s stated need.
  • Not assuming higher price always means the right choice for this specific customer.
