Fractional Sizing and Setup for Growing Students

Sizing Is a Recurring Setup Event, Not a One-Time Choice

A growing student moving from one fractional size (Lesson 10 of the sales consultant course covers the sizing system itself) to the next needs a genuinely fresh setup on the new instrument, not an assumption that the same setup preferences automatically transfer — bridge height, string height, and even string type may need adjustment for the new size.

Setup Differences Across Sizes

Smaller fractional instruments often benefit from slightly different setup choices than a full-size instrument would — sometimes marginally lower action to accommodate a smaller player’s hand strength and reach, and careful attention to fine tuner accessibility for smaller hands still developing fine motor control.

Coordinating With the Rental Program’s Exchange Process

Since sizing exchanges are typically handled through the rental program (covered from a coordinator perspective elsewhere in this academy), a string technician working with rental instruments should understand that exchange timing and communicate any setup concerns found during an exchange back to the coordinator, not just silently complete the technical work.

Setting Up the Outgoing Instrument for Its Next Student

An exchanged, now-too-small instrument going back into fleet inventory should have its setup checked and reset to a general, appropriate baseline for its next likely player, rather than left configured to the specific preferences of the student who just outgrew it.
