Power Supply Issues
A dead or intermittently powering instrument could be the power adapter itself (a surprisingly common failure point, easily tested by substitution with a known-good adapter of correct specification), the power jack/connector on the instrument, or an internal power circuit issue — testing systematically from the simplest, most common cause (the adapter) inward is the efficient diagnostic order.
Never Substituting an Incorrect Power Adapter
Using a replacement power adapter with incorrect voltage, polarity, or current rating can cause real damage to the instrument — always confirming exact specification match before substituting any adapter, even temporarily for testing, is a non-negotiable safety practice, not excessive caution.
Sustain and Expression Pedal Troubleshooting
A sustain pedal that doesn’t register, or registers backward (sustaining when not pressed, and vice versa), is often a pedal polarity setting mismatch between the pedal and the instrument, correctable through a settings menu, rather than an actual pedal or jack defect — checking this setting before assuming hardware failure saves unnecessary troubleshooting.
Cable and Connector Inspection
Physical inspection of cables and connectors (power, pedal, any audio/MIDI connections) for visible damage, correct seating, and continuity (with a multimeter for a suspected cable issue) is a basic, often-overlooked first step before assuming a more complex internal fault.
