Documentation & Scope: Field Application

Field Scenario

You complete a bridge adjustment and are about to return the instrument to the customer without a final playing test, since the adjustment itself went smoothly and you’re confident in the work.

What You Actually Do

You still perform the final playing test across all strings before returning the instrument, since confidence in how an adjustment went technically doesn’t confirm the actual playing result matches what the customer needs — a quick test catches anything unexpected before the customer discovers it themselves.

Why This Matters

Skipping final verification because you feel confident is exactly the kind of shortcut that occasionally misses something, and the cost of a quick test is far lower than the cost of a customer discovering an issue after they’ve left.

What a Strong Response Includes

  • Performing final verification regardless of confidence in the completed work.
  • Testing across the full range, not just the specific area adjusted.
  • Documenting the confirmation as part of the service record.
