Writing Effective, Accurate Listings

What Makes a Listing Effective

An effective listing gives a buyer everything they need to make a confident purchase decision without needing to ask a follow-up question: accurate title, complete specifications, honest condition description, and clear pricing.

Titles Should Be Specific, Not Vague

A listing title should specify the actual product (brand, model, key details) rather than a vague description — a specific title both helps buyers find the right product through search and sets accurate expectations before they even open the listing.

Complete Specifications Reduce Returns

Listing all relevant specifications (size, finish, included accessories, any modifications) upfront reduces the chance a buyer purchases based on a wrong assumption, which reduces returns and disputes for the vendor.

Avoiding Misleading Language

Listing language should never overstate condition or capability to make a sale — a buyer who receives a product that doesn’t match its description becomes a return, a dispute, or a lost repeat customer, none of which serve the vendor’s actual interest.
